Max lost his first tooth last week. It was a very happy occasion for him as it marks yet one more milestone towards growing up, it marks one more milestone for me that he is growing up...

Photos
I usually only get free apps for my iPhone. But, I found a couple of photo editing applications for only .99 cents! These are really easy and so much fun! I have no idea what I will do with these pictures, but for now, it's something fun and creative to do...
I've noticed in the shops at etsy and other design sites, people are re-creating the look of old time, toy cameras. As well as instant cameras. The look is really appealing to me, and these editing programs let you recreate that look with a touch of a button.
Here's a couple of edits that I did with a picture of Max from the beach:

Story of the Week
Max wanted to wrap his gift to his teacher. Not really having a box, not to mention we were giving her several handmade things such as a necklace, soap and strawberry jam - I decided that a gift bag would be better. I got Max to agree to the bag and after loading it with everything, I handed it over to him.
"Mommy, where's the stuff?" His hand waving over the top of the bag.
"All the stuff is in it, honey"
"No, mommy. The stuff!"
"You mean, tissue paper?"
"Yes, the stuff!"
"Well, we don't really need it."
"Are you a maniac?! The whole point of wrapping a present mommy, is so you can't see inside it!"
I was schooled by a 5 year old...

Hospital
Max had his first trip to the Emergency Room last week. He decided that it would be a good idea to play on top of my car. When I came outside to suggest that it really wasn't a good idea, he slid head first down the hood and landed on his head on the cement. Blood pouring out his nose...
After several hours in the ER, he was pronounced fine and he was pretty much done with sitting and waiting around...

Branding for Children
Recent conversation between Max and I:
"Mom, we drive a Honda."
"Yes, we do."
"Dad drives a Honda."
"No, dad drives a Toyota."
Max thinking for a minute. "You mean there are two types of Toyotas?"
Slightly confused I reply, "What do you mean two types?"
"Well, there's the car type like daddy drives. And then there's the toyota from Star Wars."
Once I figured out he was saying toy Yoda, I laughed so hard I cried! It's amazing how their brains work! If I could only climb inside, I would probably be amazed and enthralled with the world all over again...

Chickens and stuff
I have 15 chickens in my house right now. "Why?" would definitely be an appropriate question! The new baby chicks came in this week, so we ran over and picked them up - 14 of them. Max and I set them up in the spare room since the laundry room is filled with our future garden (whoooo!) and really 14 baby chicks need a little more space than a few inches on top of the counter. We set them up in a great little chick condo, with shavings and a wonderful heat lamp so they would be nice and warm.
I went outside to do some yard work to take my mind off waiting for the doctor to call with test results. After a little while, I went inside to check on Max who was quietly watching a movie. However, I smelled smoke.
Me: Max, did you light a candle?
Max: No.
Me: Did you light something on fire?
Max: No. (Not even looking up at me...)
Me: Why do I smell smoke?
Max: Shrugs
Right at that moment, I remembered the baby chicks and the heat lamp... I ran down the hall, opened the door and smoke poured out of the room. The fire alarm started to go off. And the my wood floor was on fire. Well, more smoldering. The cardboard box that the heat lamp was now in was on fire.
Me: Max, How DID This Happen???
Max: I didn't want the chicks to get burnt.
Me: So, you took the heat lamp out of the cage???? And put it on the floor????
Max: I put it in a box.
Me: But I told you not to touch it!!!!
Baby chicks are okay. My floor has a large charcoal spot. Max is in trouble for not obeying.
.....
This morning, I woke up to a rooster crowing. I'm not supposed to have roosters. Actually, I'm not even supposed to have chickens. So, a rooster is a big problem. Turns out one of the chickens my mom gave me a few months ago - a boy. Tonight I put him in a dog crate, in my living room. I'm hoping that will keep the neighbors from hearing him in the morning (and most likely the next couple of mornings) until my mom can take him home with her next week...
This has been an interesting week for our little "farm."
